hi welcome to the gadget tube, today i'llbe comparing the uk versions of the google chrome cast and the amazonfire tv stick so although on paper they probablyseem quite similar they're very different in the real world thechrome cast is actually a device just really basically mirrors yourdevice so android phones are preferable
Android TV fire stick, but it also works with ios to send youtube and other app's to the display andthat's basically what you need a device the mirrors to this and then displayson your screen however the amazon tv stick is a way ofhaving an android device basically
built into the stick and controlling it with theincluded remote so for video on demand they both run the iplayer, demand 5 app and netflix, they also both run plexwhich is a service that allows you to access videos on your computer. they both ofcourse run the youtube app and vimeo however the vimeo casting is good on ios but really bad on android you have to just cast thescreen and watch it on the android app whereas the fires stick tv has a built inthe vimeo app with the ability to cast your entirescreen from your android device
the google chrome cast means you can runthe itv player, however at the moment amazon's fire stick tv doesn't currently have the itv player do note that the amazon fire tv stick doesn't havefour on demand or all four service and neither does google even if you've got iton your phone it won't cast the entire screen the app simply doesn't allow you to do it both have their own tv and movie services google with the google play services and amazon with their instant video services. as a casting device the google chrome cast is much better than the amazon fine tv stick
and it certainly has a shorter, catchier name if we take a look at the spec howeverthe amazon fire tv stick wins hands down, at least doubleeverything the chrome cast has better wifi and 7.1 dolby digital plussurround sound so the chrome cast definitely wins casting and the amazon fire tv stick has a better spec but what's all thatspecification for? well in the end it doesn't really make toomuch of a difference because what you driving the chrome cast with is mostly your phone
most phones now have a really decentspec to send video and audio. however for just simplywatching content and browsing through movies the amazon fire tv stick wins becauseit's just so much easier with the remote to just flick through movies onamazon prime or flick through different apps as wellas the ones mentioned there's also video services that highlight differentfunny videos on the internet sport movies and news. there's also a tvplayer app which allows to live stream most of the freeview channels however thisis also available through
chrome cast if you use tv catch-up onyour android phone and cast the screen one thing to note about the amazon fire tv stick is there's no volume control on the remoteitself it doesn't control on the stick you have to control it through the tv.that's fine if you've got an ordinary conventional tv but i was trying thisout with monitors which had speakers connected and every time i wanted to adjust the volume i hadto get up and change it like some crazy neanderthal
so which one is better dale!? well... i could live with both theamazon fire tv stick is actually really great just forconsuming content, sitting back relaxing and flicking through and the chrome cast i think is better ifyou have content on your phone or things you want to share with people instantly from your phone just on abigger screen ultimately i think the fire tv stick is probably better value because it's an all rounderits better for watching content on it comes
with a remote and it's just a stand-alone device youcan actually also connect a bluetooth wireless controller to it toplay games on i played a few games using the remote whichdidn't work too badly for some games designed for the tv stick however the chrome castis probably the better device to cast your streaming content to so ifyou've got things the just wanna share with people
