welcome to tekzilla bites, feeding your tech hunger fast. i'm patrick norton, and today is a big day if you're an instant videouser on amazon prime, at least if you'rean android user. i mean, let's face it.
Android box amazon, ask any android user what thebiggest problem with amazon prime's instantvideo is, and you'll get one answer-- it doesn'trun on my android device. ok, it runs on your androiddevice if it's a fire.
if you have one ofthe fire phones. oh, look. stupid 3d interface. or one of the fire tablets. you can get instant video. you could never do that onthe other android devices, until now. kind of interesting, on theday of apple's iphone 6 slash iwatch announcement,or whatever they
decide to call thenew gadgets, amazon decides to releaseinstant video for android. and they released itin a really weird way. getting the instant videoapp on your android device is a little peculiar. first you gotta have amazonshopping app installed, and then you gotta loginto amazon shopping app, and then you gottafind something that's an instant video.
instead of telling you it'snot available on android, it launches a littlewindow that says, hey, you could load our new app. sounds awesome, right? except you've gotto go through some hoops to actually install it. first you're going to haveto go into the security settings on yourphone-- thoughtfully they've given you a buttonto go straight there.
next you're gonna have togive the ok to download apps from unknown sources, which basically is anything that isn't thegoogle play store. and once you've done that, you can download the video app directly from amazon'sapplication website. weird? yes. irritating? amazon and google in some sortof games going back and forth?
absolutely. but when it's done, you canopen up the instant video app or go into your primaryamazon shopping cart app, and when you click on an instantvideo, you get to play it. it looks good. you can scroll, you can search, you can look by categories. ok, it's a basic videointerface, but you know what? it would've been nice to seesomething a little snazzier, seeing as how goodthings are starting
to look on deviceslike the roku. but you know what? at this point i've beenso desperate for so long to have instantvideo on android, i'll take anything i can getand i'll be happy with it. now, if you're anandroid tablet user you might be a littlefrustrated because it doesn't look like amazon hasupdated that shopping cart application to side load theinstant video application yet,
but we hear people areloading the phone application on their tabletsand getting instant video on their tablets that way. by the way, anytime you want, you can run crunchyroll onyour android tablet. do us a favor. if you sign up forcrunchyroll, it is an amazing source of allthe newest anime, including stuff that's justgone live in japan.
